Spesía's operations are subject to Icelandic laws and regulations, as well as licensing and supervision by the Financial Supervisory Authority of the Central Bank of Iceland. Spesía's operations are conducted within a group of two companies:

is a subsidiary of Spesía Invest ehf. and operates Spesía's investing services in Iceland. The company is licensed by the Financial Supervisory Authority of the Central Bank of Iceland as a manager of alternative investment funds, with additional authorization to provide asset management and investment advice. It is the legal entity responsible for the service in Iceland and the party with which Spesía's customers contract.

Ownership
Spesía is an Icelandic company, wholly owned by Icelandic parties, mainly its founders and employees. The company is fully independent and is not a part of the traditional Icelandic banking system.
Spesía's founder and CEO is Georg Lúðvíksson, an expert in personal finances and the founder and former CEO of Meniga. Tómas Áki Gestsson is a founder and Chief Investment Officer and has held a variety of roles in the Icelandic financial market, most recently at the Central Bank of Iceland.
Other co-founders and owners are Peter Short, the company's Chief Technology Officer; Bergur Ebbi, who handles marketing and communications; and Tinna Karen Gunnarsdóttir, who leads front-end development. More information about Spesía's employees and management can be found on the team page.
In addition, more than 20 investors, mainly individuals and family-owned companies, hold shares in Spesía. They include Arnar Þór Másson and a company owned by Guðmundur Fertram Sigurjónsson, both of whom sit on the board of Spesía Invest ehf.
